“The Black Out from Hell”

  , Mountlake Terrace
We , (my parents and spouse) all decided to go to Ocean Shores for the weekend of Friday Jan 10-Sunday Jan 12, 2014. My father had a stroke in November and his birthday was January 5th as well as my spouse is on dialysis so we all needed a break.. We are from Washington and are fully aware of the weather this time of year, but the way it was handled was rediculous. The first night went ok. The room was clean and we had cable and a king size bed, as requested. (We did not, however happen to get a kitchenette, which my parents did in their room, and we made the same reservation. When we inquired about it, we just got an " Idunno" from the front desk. ) The young lady working the front desk seemed nice enough, and was even able to tell us a decent place for dinner, etc. Night 2, was another story.(We had breakfast at the adjoining restaurant that morning, but if there is a next time, we'll go elsewhere as it was terrible) After coming back for a nap on Saturday afternoon, I noticed the power went off about 1pm. Thinking that this is a decent sized hotel, on the ocean where this I'm sure happens from time to time, there must be a generator. I was wrong. I went back to sleep and woke up in pitch black a few hours later. I made my way downstairs alone, as my spouse has a prosthetic foot and it would have been hazardous for him in the dark. I was informed by the front desk that they could give me a flashlight but that there would be no refund or compensation. I didnt even bother to tell her about the food spoiling in the fridge we had bought the night before or my dad's insulin that would be damaged. She informed us the lights should be back on in a few hours, hopefully. So we left, with no other choice, to find food. We could not go back home that late and figured we had payed so we may as well stay. After about 3 hours, an overpriced dinner at the casino and a lot of wind, we came back to the hotel to find, YES, no power. There was no apology, no compensation, nothing. Just deal with it. I understand that the time of year has its own issues with weather, but that was terrible. Im sure we would have been back with a good deal like that, but the customer service was the worst. We were sitting in dark rooms, when the power finally came back on about 930pm. We were afraid to eat the food we had stored in the fridge but were too tired to just leave and go home. I suppose you get what you pay for but wow! Take better care of your paying customers! ~A.Smith, MLT W
