“Don't believe the prepayment option!”

I booked this hotel because I got a cheaper rate for prepaying, which we did on a business card. On arrival at the hotel, it turned out they hadn't taken payment and I was expected to pay there and then, despite my email receipt saying immediate payment was taken. It is very hard to get to, I was working in Borehamwood and satnav tries to take you down a service road which is not accessible. You need to go to the start of the M1. The place itself was ok, I was expecting noise from the Motorway but not the train that ran past my bedroom window. There is one plug socket in the room, not near the bed so hope you don't need to charge anything you use for an alarm. The lifts were grim, filthy and full of rubbish. The bed was big, as was the room, which was clean, and the bathroom was clean. However, if you like robe warm to sleep, the duvet is thin and there are no blankets, despite having the heating on full I was still chilly, so take warm pyjamas or a blanket if you feel the cold. The reception staff were nice, and smiley, except for in the morning when the lady asked "how was your stay" and when I said "not brilliant actually" - with a smile, not being horrid, it wasn't her fault, she sailed and said "OK then have a good day"! I had to laugh, as did the man next to me. It is a motorway travel motel, no more, no less, and very expensive for what it is, do not pay high rates for this, you get better at a premier inn, honestly. Also, breakfast, £7.95 if you book on arrival, £11.95 if you book the next day/morning, what's that about?? There are better places to stay in the area. Disappointed. It's a shame, because the business is looking for a decent local lodge to use regularly and this will not be it!
