“Quick Decision = Great stay”

  , Albuquerque
Husband and I were traveling off the cuff, by the seat of our pants, on the fly and hadn't made any plans (our favorite way to go!). We were nearing Las Cruces and decided to hole up there for the night.I'm an avid TripAdvisor user so I whipped out my app and searched for a hotel.Sometimes I can get carried away, looking for the best and cheapest place. This time I saw that I could make a reservation via the app and for a reduced rate if I did so before 6pm. I had just 12 minutes! I made the reservation but the confirmation said that I I planned to arrive after 6pm I needed to call the hotel with a credit card number! Ack!! Only 6 minutes left! I spoke with a front desk clerk named Michael. He didn't see my reservation but promised to honor the price. FANTASTIC NEWS.We arrived to the hotel about 6:15pm. Michael had us checked in and ready to go in mere minutes. We inquired about his favorite local watering hole and feeding grounds. He recommended a place not far and right up our alley. He even offered a map and directions. We went up to put our things away and check out the room. By the time we came down, Michael had maps, directions, and even a printed out copy of the place's menu. SCORE.Now, for the room.... Our room was on the second floor and had a view of the indoor pool. It was decorated nicely and nothing was missing. The bathroom was nice, complete with a heater as well as an exhaust fan. We both slept well on our King sized bed. There were plenty of pillows (decorative and normal sleeping ones). Neither of us needed any extra blankets nor did we have too many. Some people have complained that the curtains don't block out enough of the light from the windows. We did not have that experience at all. Others have complained that the noise from the pool was too loud. Granted, there was noise when the pool was open. But the pool closes at 9 and after that it was really quiet. We were in room 23. You can't get much closer to the pool than that. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. There were hot scrambled eggs, fruit, pastries, bread, bagels, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, juices and coffee. The breakfast area is really nice and has a great atmosphere. Adding to that atmosphere was the fact that we had REAL utensils and REAL plates!! I didn't expect all of this from a complementary breakfast. The only thing I wished I had at breakfast was a bit of salsa or green chile for my eggs - it IS New Mexico after all!
