“Bad first impression”

Here is the message I submitted via Ramada.com on the second day of my stay:I booked this hotel at about $100/night for my stay downtown for the ASSA Meetings Jan 4-6. in San Diego. At that price in a major downtown I was not expecting high luxury, just a clean, well-maintained room. The rooms at the hotel were small and the furnishings were old, but that was somewhat expected given the age of the hotel. In fact, I found the old-fashioned elevator somewhat charming. The room, however was not charming. I checked in at about 3:30pm, but went straight out to grab a snack and check into my conference. Dropped off my luggage at 5:00 and then straight out to meet colleagues for dinner. What I did not notice in that brief moment in the room before dinner, but did notice upon my return, was that the bed was partially unmade at the corner, and the pillows rumpled as if someone had napped in it. I called the front desk for clean sheets, and they responded that housekeeping was gone for the evening, and the only available rooms were on the first floor street side. However, they did offer to bring up clean bed linens (which ultimately included 2 regular sheets and no fitted sheet), but I had to apply them myself. Valuing sleep after a long day of travel, I chose this optionIn the morning, I noticed a soiled towel on the curtain rod, another on the floor, and that the toiletries were all partially used. I called the front desk, and housekeeping brought toiletries within 5 minutes. I understand things go wrong from time to time, but when I reported the room had been cleaned prior to check-in, I feel more could and should have been done to fix the problem. For example, I do not see why a desk manager (there were two on duty, it appeared) could not have come up and change the linens for me. The experience makes me almost completely unwilling to stay at this particular hotel again, and and hesitant to stay at any Ramada Inn in the future. James T. Bang, Ph.D.
