“Never Again”

My boyfriend and I traveled from NYC to Newport for a wedding on July 5th. Upon arriving to our hotel, we were informed there were no rooms ready for our 3:00 PM check in. The receptionist explained they were "understaffed and had no time to turn over rooms". Unacceptable explanation for a holiday weekend in a beach town. We were forced to get ready for the ceremony at a friends hotel nearby.We returned at 5:00 and were told that there were still no rooms ready. Already dressed in our formal attire, we were obviously upset. The second receptionist told us the cleaning service had just informed them a room was ready on the third floor, which they checked us into. It wasn't until we went back to the car to get our luggages that we realized there were no elevators in the un-airconditioned hallways. We had to walk up 3 flights of stairs in our wedding attire. Unbelievable!The room left much to be desired. Though the bathroom was clean, the rug and television looked like they had not been updated since 1992. It smelled like mold to boot. For a moment we contemplated going back downstairs and checking out but realized with the wedding reception 1 hour away there was simply no time.We tried to reach the front desk 3 times from our room to ask if they would call us a cab to the reception. No one answered and I eventually called for one on my cell. At checkout the next morning, we explained our experience to the receptionist. He looked at us and said "So what do you want? A discount?" At that point I was so disgusted with the lack of courtesy, efficiency and professionalism, we could not have gotten out of there faster.Hands down the worst hotel experience I have had to date.
