“Needs severe improvement!”

Staff/Front Desk:I stayed as part of a wedding block. The front desk staff was very inconsistent with booking practices. Depending on who you got on the phone, they were either completely booked or had plenty of rooms left. There are no elevators in this 3 story hotel- an issue if you are handicapped like members of my family or in your third trimester of pregnancy like myself. Also, friends of ours who had not originally planned on staying overnight tried to get a room at 12 pm for the night. They were told that since the hotel only had 4 rooms left that night that the price would be $500!! That is outrageous. Of course our friends chose not to stay and the hotel lost revenue. I mean the logic- who else is going to come in at 12pm that they would need the remaining 4 rooms for and who would pay $500 for the quality of rooms that this hotel offered? I paid $170 and thought this was overpriced- but dealt with it because it's Newport.Rooms: None of the phones worked in the rooms. When it was addressed with the front desk, we were told they lost power a few days ago. Why we were not told of this when we checked in I do not know. When I went to sleep, I found that the underside of the white comforter on the bed had a huge red wine stain. Yuck- makes me wonder if they even changed the sheets. Ammenities:Part of the reason why everyone chose this hotel is because there is a bar/lounge that we could go to after the wedding. We arrived at 12 pm and the woman working behind the bar was the worst bartender I have ever encountered. Her apathy and attitude about helping customers was terrible! I watched her have a lengthy conversation with a hotel worker behind the bar while ignoring the many people waiting to be served. She did not know how to mix drinks and actually encouraged patrons to make their own drinks if she couldn't find the Miller Light that was visible to everyone except her. The location was good, but this hotel needs to be brought into the 21st century and needs a complete overhall of it's facilities and staff. I really cannot recommend this hotel.
