“Modern Hotel in Old Manila”

  , Quezon City
We stayed here because we availed of a Binondo Food Tour and hotel overnight stay package. Ramada Manila Central is probably the best hotel in the Binondo area... since all the other ones are run-down old buildings that are in dire need of upgrading. Ramada is modern and nicely furnished, though a bit cramped. It looks more like a business hotel than a luxury hotel. There's no swimming pool, but it has a fitness center (which I didn't visit) and offers free shuttle service to SM Mall of Asia and Lucky Chinatown Mall. The staff was courteous and thoughtful. After the food tour, my wife, who had come from a 24-hour shift, fell asleep on a couch in the lobby. Though check-in was still at 2pm, the concierge came up to me at around 12:45 and told me he had prioritized our check-in so that my wife could sleep comfortably. Such a nice gesture! The corridors leading to the room are narrow and dimly lit, but the room itself is spacious enough. The large windows offer a clear view of the Old Manila area, with the Binondo Church right in front. The bathroom has a shower and tub; there was a slight smell coming from one of the drains but it wasn't too much of a hassle. The breakfast buffet, which was included in our package, had about 8 different viands and an omelette station; not grand, but sufficient. If you're not used to being around a predominantly Chinese crowd, you might have a hard time staying at the restaurant long. They are a very loud crowd, especially the older men who talk as if they're having a party at their house. When my wife and I stepped out of the restaurant and into an empty elevator, my ears were ringing a bit. (I asked a Chinese friend about this, and she said it's normal.) Overall, I'd say Ramada is an average hotel. For those seeking a luxury stay, I wouldn't recommend this, but if you want to be near the Binondo/Divisoria area, then this is a good choice. Also, if the staff is always as pleasant as they were to us that day, then guests shouldn't have any problems.
