“Gaslamp Ramada falls short....”

  , Riverside, California, Usa
This is for an April 2013 two night stay: An historic hotel with 100 year old charm. The small, and slow, elevator cars with their gates and doors transport you back in time. Which I found nice and worth the slow trips. The rooms are small, and the queen bed will fill the room. Rooms have window mounted A/C units, ceiling fans, ornate cast iron steam radiators for heat - yes they will get hot - no microwave, no small refrigerator, window looks out over the street, but there is a small coffee machine. Small bath with only a shower about 1/2 the size of a tub's length. There is a roof top lounge that offers nice views of the nearby area. BYOB and food, and enjoy an evening on the roof. Yes, there are draw backs to staying in this old historic hotel. But I found the charm to counter all the structural drawbacks. When signing in, one must sign that they understand that rooms are not refundable due to excessive noise. I found out why...in that the hotel is right in the Gaslamp, right on a busy street, and one's room is right on that busy street...it gets noisy, even late at night. BUT, on the flip side of that coin the entire Gaslamp with all its shops and restaurants is within 1-5 blocks of walking. Parking is crazy in the Gaslamp, so take advantage of the valet parking. Mind you though, my valet staff was cold and distant...and each time I got in my vehicle I had to readjust my seat and mirrors. Most irritating. Also, I phoned in a 6am wake up call for each of the two mornings I stay there. No call ever came for either morning. When I brought the issue up to the staff, I got a cold and distant, "Sorry," and that was it. Customer service is lacking big time. The restaurant, Brian's 24 is adjacent the hotel with average food with above above average prices. But it is open 24 hours and offers room service to the hotel. They claim to be famous for their Chicken and Waffles. For $15 for what one gets in food quality...their claim doesn't carry well with me. This historic hotel has its pros and cons, and what weight one gives each of those will make for their decision to stay or not. I'm glad I stayed there, but doubt I will again.
