“Service problems”

Reservation was for a Thursday through Monday stay. I had been using this hotel since 1963 (when it was a Holiday Inn) for both business and family events with no problems. At check in, the service person was cordial. I asked to view room before accepting key. I was told that "policy" required that they keep my drivers license at the desk while I reviewed the room even though they had just checked my drivers license and run a copy of my credit card and I would be returning to the counter to affirm my intent. Checked the room which was in they old, two story section of the hotel and then requested a room in the newer "high rise" section. They obliged at no additional cost. New room was excellent. Checking out is when the real problems began. We left a day early due to family considerations. I was told that I would have to pay for the night I wasn't staying since I had made and paid for my reservations on line and the desk people could not refund the unpaid night. After a brief discussion they agreed to delete the unused night. Unfortunately, they changed the room rate to a significantly higher cost since they said the three night stay was more expensive per night than the four night stay. They would not budge. Not happy. They gave me a copy of my revised billing and I left. When I got home from the trip I received an email from my credit card company that my per day charge had exceeded my requested maximum limit. The hotel had double charged me for my room. The original four plus the actual three night charge. I'm in the process of having the billing corrected. I'm uncertain what the final cost will be.
