“Great hotel / marginal staff”

I spent a lot of years in the restaurant business. I prefer to treat service people like people and so I say hello when I pass them. No response - just a glare. Once could be isolated, but this happened three times. The woman who ran the breakfast was clearly not happy - I passed and ate at the Fireside Pancake House nearby (excellent).OK, whatever - room was clean enough and price not terrible - I can certainly look past some of the staff.Toilet clogged, so on my way out to a funeral in AM, I asked the young man at the desk dressed very casually in a wool cap if he could either find a plunge for me to employ or have the toilet unplugged. Return to room after the service and guess what? Ewwwww.Head down to desk and a middle-aged fellow was very apologetic - found me a plunger and insisted on offering me a discount for that night - very professional, but of course, it would have been nice if the young fellow who had all day could have gotten it done.I will say that "Nisha", who was present when I checked in very late - she was very nice and welcoming - professional manner.Not an automatic return - will look around next visit, but would stay again - barely.
