“Poor Experience at the Bronx Ramada”

I stayed at the Ramada Bronx (New York) on 7/12-7/14. My stay on the evening of 7/12 through 7/13 was ok. However, on the morning on 7/14 my guest and I were awakened by screaming, yelling, items being thrown and broken in a room located above the room in which we were staying in. It was evident that the 2 individuals were engaged in a very violent physical altercation. One of the 2 individuals was screaming and pleading as if she was being hurt. My guest and I called the front desk to report the incident. We were informed by the front desk person (Maria) that she was able to hear everything on all floors, rooms, etc. from the booth that she was in; however somehow she was unable to hear the noise my guest and I reported. She stated that she was the only staff member on duty; therefore, she was unable to leave the booth to investigate further. Approximately, 30 minutes later Maria called back to say that she had gone up to the upper level floors; however, she still was unable to find the room where the noise was coming from; moreover, she stated she could not hear anything. The noise and altercation my guest and I reported continued and since it did not seem anyone else was concerned and/or bothered by the fact that someone was being physically harmed, my guest and I called the NYPD. By the time the police arrived, the noise/altercation had stopped; therefore, they too reported that they were unable to locate the room in which the noise was coming from. We were informed by Maria (front desk staff person) that since the police could not hear any noise; they did not investigate further because they could not run the risk of disturbing the other guests by knocking on all of the doors. I was completely unsatisfied by how this situation was handled both by Ramada staff and the NYPD. I feel that it is unfortunate that the safety and well-being of guests at the Ramada is not a priority for this company. I pray that the victim involved in the physical altercation is ok and was able to seek the help care that he/she needed, since none of the other hotel guests and/or staff were able to provide that for him/her.
