“Accidentally overcharged, but they could care less”

I fully understand that when checking in with a debit card they will hold a security deposit and it may take several days to clear. I use my debit card all the time for hotels to get points on my card. BUT, someone at the Ramada in Grayling, Michigan accidentally overcharged my debit card by almost $800 and cleared out my checking account. They charged me $1100 instead of $300. The best part is they never told me even though they knew they made the mistake! I just happen to be online reviewing how much money I spent over the weekend before continuing our trip, and was very unpleasantly surprised that my checking account was almost empty. I went to the front desk to check out, gave them my name and they checked me out without saying anything. Then when I brought up the missing money from my account, they said "Oh yeah, we were going to tell you about that yesterday, but we didn't get a chance to." I told them thanks for cutting our trip short and that this wasn't right. They said they couldn't do anything about it. Sorry. Thank goodness we had a credit card to have gas money to get back home (a 400 mile drive). I called and left a message with the manager. Ignored. I sent the manager an email (I was given her business card at checkout). Ignored. If I hadn't notice their $800 mistake on my own, my checking account would have gone into serious default. THEY HAD A DUTY TO LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY!!!! I will never stay at that Ramada again. I will let everyone I know not to stay there. I will be all over the web letting people know that they just don't care at that location. Very unprofessional, to say the least. I could go on and on about the hot water not working or the room furnace having only two settings, on & off, but that pales in comparison to the real issue. Too bad Grayling only has a couple places to stay. Grayling needs the tourists, but with service like this who wants to stay there?
