“quaint...historic...pleasant”

  , Pflugerville
100+ year old hotel, so change your expectations. The rooms are very small and obviously retrofitted. I was reminded of small hotel rooms in Europe or New Orleans. Fictional rooms without a lot of bells and whistles. Not particularly business friendly (limited outlets near the bed) but otherwise met my needs. Skip the "fitness center" and either get a pass to pure fitness or go jog the bay. The elevator is small and also 100+ years old. Very slow and one must use both arms and a knee to enter and exit...but that's the unconventional aspect of a historic place. I often took the stairs. Make sure you visit the roof. I spent time reading and sipping coffee on the rooftop. Warnings...the andaz is across the street and the music from the clubs wafts towards the st James. And in general there are some assertive panhandlers ...the salvation army is less than two blocks. I slept well. I was tucked in a cubby hole away from the stairs and elevators, so my stay was silent other than the sounds from the nightclubs. I pricelined the hotel, so recieved a lower price than advertised, thus was happy not only with the price but was unbothered by the nonconventional aspects of this old hotel.
