“Ridiculous Safe Fee”

  , Baltimore
We stayed at this hotel for a business event, vending at a convention there for the weekend. The hotel staff were super friendly, and the restaurant was stellar with good food for the prices. However, the beds and pillows were just not very comfy, and when I called to inquire about different pillows, they didn't really have anything else available. I am used to the dryness of hotels, but our stay seemed dryer than most, and the heating cooling unit in our room was very loud. Then came check out time, and that's when I noticed the safe fee. We'd been charged $1 per night for a safe fee. We'd never used the safe, never asked to use the safe, and had never been asked if we wanted to use the safe. Now, it's only $1 a night, but nothing like that should automatically show up on a bill. At first, the desk employee said they could not remove the charge. Then the convention chair came by and said they had found a way to get the charges removed, since she had plenty of angry vendors and attendees all complaining about the safe fee. While I will remember the kind staff, and the value at the restaurant, I will also remember being charged a fee for a service I did not use for no apparent reason other than "It's the policy". Bad form, upper hotel mangement, bad form.
