“New, clean, but odd”

  , Austin
The hotel is new and seems to be taken care of so far. But it's just... awkward. The entire facility is having some sort of identity crisis. The lobby has a makeshift concession stand thingy happening. The rooms were built with nice materiasl, but none actually match each other! Nothing fits together (ie. fridge doesn't slide under the counter) and it looks like it was poorly planned out. Maybe it's just owned by someone with eccentric tastes. Why spend money on nice doors, countertops, furniture, paint, etc if it done's go together? Even the toilet sits WAAAAY too far away from the toilet paper holder (Not on a roller! You have to hold the roll yourself!) Almost impossible to reach without hurting your back or simply getting up. Cool toilet. Poor planning. We put some items in the mini fridge and flipped the lightswitch to turn it on (yes, it's a manual process!), but it must have been plugged into the wrong power outlet, because all of our food was hot/ruined in the morning. Not cool. That concept def needs to be reconsidered. Basically feels like the entire facility is "rigged". Like everything was an afterthought...As people were checking out, they were all looking at some odd little building in the back that had a patio with chairs on top. Strange. What is going on up there? Open to hotel guests? The owner's little oasis? This place was confusing. But for the money, it's still a great deal. $70 for a clean/quiet room? Can't go wrong with that. In fact, it's kind of fun to find all of the oddities around the room. Def a conversation starter! First time I ever took pics of a hotel room so that I could show friends. Would like to meet the owner... and his eccentric wife/decorator. The hotel could have been REALLY nice! Doesn't make any sense why they ruined it... Is there a TV show for rescuing hotels? ;)
