“Value Accommodation”

  , Bluffton, South Carolina
I selected this property on price and location convenience. It is an older property with some obvious cosmetic deficiencies. My room was fundamentally clean but the bed spread stained beneath a foot coverlet and ceiling panels in the drop ceiling of the entry foyer displaced and ill fitting. The food in the attached restaurant was quite good and the breakfast buffet was quite remarkable for the price which was included in the room charge. The front desk staff member who checked me in and out was hopelessly ill trained for his position. My comment to him upon check out that the coffee maker in my room was not functioning was greeted with an "o.k." This was the same man who let me stand at the front desk awaiting checkin while he read the newspaper. Front desk attention and service during my stay was disappointing. Obviously at one time this had been an upscale full service hotel with convention and banquet facilities. While those facilities remain, they are quite dated and the restaurant and bar appear underutilized. Overall the operation of this property and its' staff does not appear professional or particularly well trained. But at $59.00, which was my room rate, it represented a fantastic value inasmuch as it included a fine breakfast buffet and an assortment of hot hors d'oeuvres at the nearly empty bar during the early evening. I think this property might suit traveling families well but don't expect anything too fancy. It is basic accommodation with a good T.V. for the kids. While there is a business center and pool, my stay was not of sufficient duration that I required use of either. The morning staff at the buffet appeared extremely surprised that I left a tip. They were very attentive and cordial. I think they truly appreciated this as I doubt they are paid much. John Hart Bluffton, S.C.
