First, I'd like to start out by saying that I am not a picky person when it comes to staying at places. In fact, imperfection is often something I admire when traveling. I like something that's more human and less corporate.To begin with, I'd like to touch on the bad. These are things that are just unforgivable for me. The first issue I had with this hotel is that one of the doors that led to the outside near our room was never locked and did not require a key to enter. I felt this was a serious security risk especially since I had my 2 young sons with me. The second issue was that the hallway outside our room reeked of the smell of cigarette smoke which all rooms were labeled as non-smoking. Go kill yourself outside; don't subject others to your stink. And yes, you stink if you are a smoker. The final issue was that our room was said to have 2 queen beds when in fact they were 2 full beds. Not a deal-breaker, but I do like my space when I'm sleeping.Now for the good. This hotel has a really cool indoor water park with a huge water slide. It also has a shallow, kid-friendly section and small slide for the little ones. My kids enjoyed this a lot and was the highlight of the trip for them. The big slide didn't seem to propel me when I tried to go down it, but I found that when I rolled up into a ball it sent me flying. So I'll blame my poor aerodynamics on that one.When we arrived we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. We also received a $10 voucher towards food at the restaurant there which I thought was a very nice (and unexpected) perk to staying there. We had breakfast there the next morning and used the voucher. The food was very good and reasonably priced.As for the look of the hotel, I need to spend a little bit on this. This is not a very up-to-date looking hotel on the inside. It is very spacious and has lots of room for events or conferences, but it looks like it was last updated in the 1980's. This is not a bad thing. In fact, I loved that it looked this way. It reminded me of my own childhood, traveling with my family and I was glad my kids got to see a place like this. There were a couple of old arcade games. I wish I had time to play them, but didn't get around to it. Despite it's look, the interior was very clean and kept up very well. Please do not change the look unless it's to add a few more arcade games. There's plenty of room for a small game room.I will stay here any time I go to Alamosa. « less
