“Ramada Plaza does the trick!”

  , Redwood City
We chose the Ramada Plaza for a quick two-night stay for a friend's show at the Roxy. This hotel can't be beat as far as location goes, right in the thick of West Hollywood. The rooms have air conditioning *and* an open-able window, which is a rare treat these days, but the crowds of party kids wandering through the hotel and parking areas at all hours create a lot of noise. It's a trade-off. If you're not exhausted enough, you might have trouble sleeping. The mattresses were a little hard, and one bedframe was a little broken-down. The furnishings/carpeting a little worn out, but the lighting is good and the minifridge was a big plus. Electrical outlets are somewhat oddly placed, but plentiful once you find them. The bathroom had the necessities, but not much more, and one of those terrible heatlamp lights. We also only had one set of towels given to us daily, which was strange. However, there was HBO. The front desk staff were all polished, professional and welcoming, and room service staff quick and friendly (more on that later). The room cleaning schedule was irregular from day to day, and the maids tried to let themselves into our room once or twice the day we checked out before we were able to leave. Parking attendants were problematic...the first level of parking is nearly all reserved for various businesses and functions, but this is not clearly marked. The attendants watched us linger with our blinkers on, and didn't say a word to us until I got out of the car, walked up to somebody, and asked *twice* where guest parking was. The first time I asked, the uniformed gentleman just blinked at me. Finally, he gestured vaguely up the blind ramp to the second level. Fair warning, there is no internal elevator or staircase from the parking level -- you have to walk down to street level and re-enter the hotel from the outside. We couldn't find any ADA-accessible way to do this, but maybe we just missed it.Room service came from the 24-hour restaurant next door. Food was not un-delicious, in a diner/cafeteria sort of way, but very salty and somewhat tepid. However, the prices were decent, friendly kids would run your food up to your hotel room within 15 minutes of you calling, and it's just nice to know you can get a grilled cheese at 3am.Overall, if you have reasonable expectations and don't need too much special treatment, the Ramada Plaza is a great place to sleep!
