“That's a new low”

We knew that Ramada was hardly the high end option as far as hotels go but this time it hit a new low. My room smelled like an old closet and the small AC unit couldn't get the stink throughout the night. My experience however is nothing compared to that of my colleague's. His room, right next door, has apparently been cleaned recently and the carpet wasn't completely dry. It smelled even worse, even without the added humidity. When the water from the carpet (yes, all of it was slightly wet) started evaporating, the room turned into a swamp. There were no other rooms available at that time. Since my room wasn't even close to perfect either and the room safe was broken, we decided to check out and get the hell out of there instead of leaving our valuables lying around while the staff does what they should have done before our arrival.The only positive aspect of the entire experience was the front desk staff. They seemed genuinely distressed by our issues but there wasn't much they could do without a new and clean room to offer. At least they didn't charge us for my colleague's room of horrors.
