I first stayed in this hotel in '06, but did not experience an old, slightly sour odour outside in the corridor, but a little less noticeable in the room. I was on the ground floor previously, and this time I had to take the lift. This smell gave me the impression that the hotel's upper floors hadn't really been cleaned deeply in a while. The decor was a bit dated from the early 90's, and the lighting seemed florescent and a little green. The carpet was a bit old and nothing felt that fresh, although they might have given it a try. The sheets were a little rough and the pillows had been downgraded from what I remembered in '06. I'm not sure of their freshness. In the shower, after drawing the curtain, I noticed a dried used washcloth draped over the shower rod. Who knows how long it had been there? I brought antiseptic wipes to give things a clean, so I used a couple of those around the lavatory and room, handles, tables, remote, etc. I had to plug in the fridge, and the microwave seemed a bit used and not so fresh. This was the least expensive stay on my trip through the southwest, and it showed. I think I will pay up a little elsewhere if I stay in Bakersfield again. That's too bad considering I was rather impressed in '06. At least it was quiet and I managed to get some sleep. « less

I came to Bakersfield for a cheer competition with my daughter and picked this hotel because it was not very far from the convention center and the booking site and the hotel site indicated it had a better than average continental breakfast, a jacuzzi/spa & pool, and a shuttle that picked up at Amtrak. Well the jacuzzi/spa did not work during our entire stay, it would not get hot. The pool was freezing. When I emailed the hotel to arrange for the shuttle to pick us up at Amtrak, it took days to get a response telling us they no longer have a shhuttle and would be telling the booking sites to correct the listing. Then there was the breakfast. The orange juice is so watery and weak. They had one type of bagel, a limited choice of breads to toast, and the pasteries were almost non-existant. they hhad a few tiny chocolate muffins one day, and what seemed like the costco little brownies another with some small croissants. The one really good thing through was that they had the make-it-yourself waffles and they were very good. I did like that it was near a Sizzler and other places to eat. Also we had problems with a light on the room, told the person on duty that evening who said they would get it fixed that evening but we had to again tell the clerk in the morning before it was fixed. Also there was a fair amount of mildew along the ceiling in the bathroom and the AC had no label inside to tell you what the functions were, we had to guess what was cool and what the temp range was. « less
