“Apparent attempted scam”

I am a senior citizen with extensive lifetime travel experience. My experience at the Day's Inn in Lake Village, AR gave me the impression I was being setup for a "rip-off". When I checked in, the desk clerk requested I sign their form agreeing to a fine of $100 to be charged to my credit card if I smoked in the non-smoking room. I signed the form since my wife and I do not smoke. Room 233 was assigned to us. When I entered the room, it was immediately obvious that a "smoker" had recently used the room even though a non-smoking sign was posted on the desk in the room. Furthermore, there were numerous yellow colored cigarette burns on top of the bathroom sink. Upon notifying the front desk of this situation, the desk clerk came to Room 233 and agreed that the room had a strong cigarette smell. I showed her the cigarette burns on the sink. Subsequently, she apologized and promptly moved us to Room 213, which was acceptable. When I checked out the following morning, the receipt I was given was for Room 233 (the nasty smelling smoker room) rather that Room 213. It was important to me that I had the correct receipt showning Room 213 so I could have some peace of mind that I my credit card would not be charged $100 for the smoke damage in Room 233. I was initially told by the desk clerk that the computer showed that we slept in Room 233. Since the desk clerk was a different person than the night before, I explained the reason for the room transfer to Room 213 from 233. I was told that the computer showed someone else slept in room 213 and not us and only the manager could make any corrections. When the manager arrived, she promptly and courteously made the corrections in the computer program and printed out the correct receipt.
