“Just OK”

I was quite disappointed in both rooms I booked in this hotel. Maybe I am being biased, but the night before we stayed in exceptional rooms in Banff for $40 less per room a night. The room layout (king bed and sitting area) was exactly the same as the room in Banff but that is where the comparison ends. When I walked into the room I noticed an "odd" smell. Maybe the room hadn't been cleaned properly or maybe it is time to shampoo/replace the rugs? My sons room had the same "odd" smell. The furniture was worn and dated in both rooms. The quilt/duvet they have on the bed was the heaviest comforter I have ever had on any bed. I ended up using only the light sheet that was under it. There were no extra blankets in the closet so I was thankful the room was quite warm. A side note that I found odd regarding check in. The gentleman at the desk asked if he could put the charge through on the rooms immediately rather than at check out. He stated that the front desk gets very busy in the morning and there may be a line. I said sure so the charge was put through. Before I left the desk I asked for my receipt and whether I just leave the keys in the room. He stated no, I still had to turn in my keys and get the receipt in the morning. OK....so I would still have to stand in line? The whole conversation left me a little confused. At almost $200 per night during low season the rooms needs some serious refurbishing. I will choose another hotel when I return in the fall.
